Orlando, FloridaRacers United Charitable Fund announced today it raised $927 at the first event of the year held at the Florida Winter Tour in Orlando, Florida. The Rotax race weekend brought over 260 competitors who helped raise the money through a raffle. During the event, DeFrancesco Racing had a representative (Pam Heron) selling raffle tickets throughout the first two days of the event and a drawing was held on Sunday to announce the winner. Half of the proceeds from the raffle went to the winner and the other half of the proceeds went to the Orlando based Guardian Ad Litem program which helps neglected and abused children. The organization was on hand during many of the Sunday prefinal races as guests of DFR where they were thoroughly impressed with the level of competition on the track.

In 2010, the fund raised over $10,000 and was able to give to several charities throughout the US to include CASA (Child Advocates), United Way, Voices for Children, Pregnancy Resource Center, and Young Life. The fund is managed by Cole Glasson Racing and hopes to expand its reach further through the 2011 season with events at both the local, regional, and national level. The target for 2011 is to raise in excess of $20,000 and reach the $100,000 per year mark by 2015. The next event will be held during the FWT Rotax weekend in Palm Beach, Florida.

Special thanks to FWT and DFR for their help throughout the event. FKP’s Bill Wright; “It’s my pleasure to allow Racers United to be associated with our program. Formula Kart Productions believes it’s important to give back to the community, and this is a great way for karting to be involved in helping those less fortunate.” For more information on Racers United, please visit their website at www.racersunited.org.
